Learn how to add or edit staff break times in AcornCloud — including creating new break types, marking breaks as paid or unpaid, and assigning cover staff.
Open the Staff ScheduleFrom the left-hand menu, go to Schedule → Staff.
Find the staff member’s shift you want to edit and tap the book & pen icon.
Manage Break TypesTap Manage Break Types to open the list of existing options.
To create a new one, tap Add Break Type at the top right of the pop-up.
Add a New Break TypeType in the Break Name (e.g. Lunch, Tea Break, Admin Time).
Tick the box if it’s a Paid Break, or leave it unticked for Unpaid.
Tap Save once done.
Add the Break to the ScheduleFrom the shift editor, select the Break Type you just created (or an existing one) from the dropdown.
Enter the break start and end times.
If another staff member is covering this break, select their name from the Break Cover dropdown.
Save the ScheduleTap Update Staff Schedule to save your changes.
The updated break time will now appear on the staff member’s schedule.
If you assigned a cover, that break cover will automatically appear on the other staff member’s schedule too.
Best Practice TipsUse clear, consistent names for break types (e.g. Lunch 30min, Tea 15min) so they’re easy to recognise.
Double-check break times and cover assignments before saving to avoid overlaps.
Regularly review break types to ensure paid/unpaid settings align with your service’s policies.
