Managers can easily create new leave types in AcornCloud — whether it’s Paid Annual Leave, Unpaid Leave, Certified Sick Leave, or any other custom category your service needs. Once created, these can be assigned to staff so they can apply for the correct type of leave.
Open the Staff Leave ScreenFrom the left-hand menu, go to Schedule → Staff Leaves.
Tap Manage Leave Types (top of the screen)
Add a New Leave TypeTap Add Leave Type (top right of the pop-up window)
Enter the Name of your new leave type.
Use the toggles to set whether it is:
Paid or Unpaid.
Certified or Uncertified.
Tap Next to continue.
Add Eligible Staff MembersFrom the dropdown, select the staff members who are eligible for this leave type.
For each staff member, you can:
Add an opening balance.
Toggle whether accruals are allowed.
Toggle whether requests are allowed.
Save the Leave TypeTap Save Leave Type
Best Practice TipsKeep leave type names clear and consistent (e.g. Annual Leave, Unpaid Leave, Certified Sick Leave).
Use the accruals toggle only for leave types that accumulate over time (like annual leave).
Always double-check eligibility lists before saving — only eligible staff should see new leave options.
And that’s it! You’ve created a new leave type that’s ready to assign and use across your service.
